Cop Shop debuted on Australian Television on November 28 1977. It was produced by Crawford Productions and aired on the HSV Channel 7 network.

The final episode, number 582, aired in 1984. The series completed a rerun on the 7 network in 1997 when it aired in the late night timeslot of 4am. It's original timeslot was 8.30pm where it aired twice weekly.

It was set in the fictious station of Riverside and featured both male and female police officers and detectives.

Uniformed officers were based at the downstairs charge counter and plain clothes detectives where located in the upstairs offices.

When it began Sergeant O'Reilly was in charge of the uniformed branch, Detective Sergeant Glen Taylor was in charge of the detectives.
