48th TV Week Logie awards
On Sunday May 7th the 48th TV Week Logie awards were presented
from Crown Casino Melbourne. Hosts for the night were Georgie
Parker (A Country Practice, All Saints), Lisa
McCune (Blue Heelers), Ray Martin, Daryl
Somers and Bert Newton.
Presenting the award for best drama were The Sullivans' Paul
Cronin and Lorraine Bayley.
Bec and Llyetton Hewitt presented a Children's television award
with their daughter Mia making her first television appearance
in a gown to match her mothers :)
Overseas guest presenters appeared from the US and also UK's
Torvill and Dean who's new celebrity skating program is soon
to appear on Australian TV.
Daniel McPherson was also present from the UK to present an
award. Rebecca Gibney presented with Chris Noth (Law and Order).
The Hall of Fame award went to long running children's program
Play School which has featured many Soap alumni as presenters;
Anne Haddy, Lorraine Bayley, Georgie Parker, Simon Burke, Justine
Clarke, and Jay LaGia. Many of the presenters were on stage to
receive the award along with their co-stars; Big Ted, Little
Ted, Jemima, Humpty Dumpty, Daisy and more.
A highlight of the night was a tribute to Graham Kennedy by
Bert Newton and the inaugral award named in his honour went to
Chris Lilley.
Sadly this year also saw the loss of soapie stars Sophie
Heathcote (A Country Practice and Water
Rats) and Rodney Bell.

Foxtel's way
Foxtel drama Love My Way won 3 awards, most outstanding
drama, most outstanding actress to Claudia
Karvan and most outstanding
actor to Dan Wyllie.
Wood turns to Gold
After 10 successive nominations, and a long career as an actor
John Wood was
successful in winning the gold logie award for most
pop personality on Australian
television.
He also won the silver award for most popular actor for his
role as Tom Croyden in Blue Heelers. Unfortunately this programs
final season is currently airing but we hope to see John back
on our TV screens again.
Home takes it away
Home and Away took away 4 awards in last night's TV
Week Logie awards, winning most popular drama, best new male
talent Paul O'Brien and
female talent Jodi Gordon. The night was also
a successful one for Gold Logie nominee Kate
Ritchie who
won most popular actress for her longstanding portrayal of Sally
in the program.
